Our youth program is in a constant state of growth and activity. During the 2007 - 2008 season we quickly rose from 6 skaters to 8, and performed at Fiesta Skate, the Kingsgate in-house competition. Skaters performed to a mix of music from "Robots." 2008 - 2009 came and went with only a few skaters returning to the ice. This was a year for transitions to other activities such as band, soccer, and track.
Hoping to create their second full team in the 2009 - 2010 season, there are currently 7 skaters on our Preliminary team, Emerald Mystique Crystals. Coach Jacque is quite happy to see many new faces skating right along side our returning synchro members. Music for the upcoming season was cut with a Candy Theme in mind, skating to "Lollipop," "Sugar, Sugar," and "I Want Candy!" Hoping for that magical #8 skater to join us, will this be the year the Crystals make their Sectionals debut?
In 2005, Coach Jacque offered the first Spring/Summer synchro skills class at the Kingsgate Ice Arena in Kirkland, WA. There were 15 participants ranging in age from 5 years up through Adult. That fall, we had 6 strong Adult skaters who were interested in continuing through a Synchronized Skating Program. Although the group didn't have enough skaters to be recognized as a competitive synchro team, they enjoyed skating together anyway. These adults skated to music from "Dr. Zhivago" and performed at the annual Winter Solstice show.In their second season, the Adults flourished and had 10 active skaters. They skated to a Johnny Cash medley of "Daddy Sang Bass", "Ghost Riders In the Sky", and "Folsom Prison Blues." They competed at their first competition, the 2007 Pacific Coast Championships, and dazzled their way to a gold medal in Chicago.
2007 - 2008 proved to be a growth year. With changes to the skating roster and some injuries, the Adult team was down to 5 skaters. But they continued those early morning practices, skating to a Space Theme. Music from "2001: Space Odyssey" and Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me To The Moon" was a beautiful montage they performed at Winter Solstice.
2008 - 2009 was more challenging yet. With committment from many new skaters, but not enough for a full team again, Emerald Mystique opted to stick together. With the failing economy, these brave adults still came to those early morning sessions and put together an amazing program skated to 'Alegria' by Cirque du Soleil. They again performed at Winter Solstice, showing off beautiful ina bauers, intricate mohawk step sequences and layback spins.
